If youre gonna solo just bonk stuff and heal yourself with a dot or two til level 20ish then you can root rot, both ways are still more effective than bothering with slow. Slows suck ass and aren't worth it. At level 7 your be able to solo/tank mobs.The only reason to make a Ogre Shaman is for the Stun imuntity, also the best Melee starting stats which means you will be able to take a beating more than other races can.
