I had tons of contracting/cramping and a LOT of bloody/mucas discharge following the sweep. I walked for hours after the sweep, and was in labor by that night. During pregnancy, the entrance to your womb (uterus) is sealed with a mucus plug that stops harmful bacteria from reaching your baby (Lacroix et al 2020). When the mucus plug dislodges from your cervix it's called the show, or a bloody show. The jelly-like plug is often blood-tinged or streaked with old, brownish blood when it comes away. I had a sweep last Friday, lost a ton of my mucus plug with blood. That didn’t send me into labor but it did help me dilate. On Tuesday my provider did another sweep (they were going to be inducing me anyway so it made sense) and that once sent me into labor. Didn’t need a medical induction! Had my first sweep done at 39+3 (2cm 50% effaced) and had my bloody show immediately and lost my plug two days later but nothing else happened. I had another one at 40+3 (4cm and 70% effaced) in early labor and within 30 min my so so contractions were very painful and 4 min apart. 3 hrs later I was 7cm and 100% effaced, 2 hours after that …I had my membrane swept at 10am and was also 2 cm. Lost my mucus plug around 4 pm. Took a nap to rest up for birth. At 7 pm started having contractions with no real pattern which continued all night. By 7 am I noticed them getting closer together. At 10am we decided to go to hospital and was 6 almost 7 cm dialated.

Next day at 39 weeks, I felt nothing. Took a nap and woke up at about 3:15pm with back pain and contractions. I waited about 20 mins to time contractions.
