Kohler engine surging at idle.

Surging at idle. If I disconnect the IAC it runs almost right. Put in new IAC and still surges. Will surge up to about 1500 then down very low. It gets lower and lower each time till it dies. It will start right back up. If parked with nose downhill surge is worse. Park uphill and it idles fine. Put in new fuel filter and cleaned TB.Hello everyone. Start with the fuel filter first, these should be changed atleast yearly. Don't buy the ones form lowes or home depot, they are overpriced and the exact same...Does your engine have an anti-icing kit installed. Having grown up in northern Iowa we found icing up in the carb to be a big problem. This can happen in temps as warm as 35-40 degrees. The air is super cooled as it goes through the carb. The crankcase on the kohler engine is attached to the air cleaner system as well.

It's the Kohlers that rely on gravity feed (i.e. those without fuel pumps) that are so finicky about fuel filters. In any case, always use a factory-recommended filter no matter what engine you have. My 20HP Kohler Command surges when not under a load. It runs fine with the mower engaged.

I keep "seafoam" in the fuel, and this seems to keep this issue from returning. IF you are not familiar, have a professional do a Carb Clean for you.
