I have owned my VN800 for about 5 years and never had a problem that I didn't create myself. Your valves could become damaged if you never check the clearance/redo the shims on them. Or maybe you like to rev it up loud before the engine is warm. That would eventually bend a valve.Check for oil around the spark plug cavity and then explore this further. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. Bike is a 2003 vulcan, 800 classic. Bike would stop running while cruising along about 70, and would not start again for a few minutes. Everytime it did this was about 7-10 miles after filling up with gas, could go another mile or two, and it would stop again, and again for a third time.
