Recently the PTO is hard to engage. It feels like the lever is binding but isn't loose or anything its just really hard to pull then push to engage the PTO.2. This used 2008 JD 5603 came up at the dealer with low hours. It has 99 HP so I went with the bigger/used tractor for same price as the smaller new. It has the cab and loader as a plus.

Feb 1, 2015 · My 5420 was idling while I was out of the cab and shut off by itself. The problem seems electrical, the switch has no power, neither do the wipers, A.C. blower or turn signals. The headlights do work however which rules out any battery issues. I checked all the fuses which were fine and swapped some similar relays around which didn't help either.
