La raccolta ha sede dal 1922 in Piazza San Marco, negli spazi dell’Ala Napoleonica e di parte delle Procuratie Nuove. La progettazione e l’inizio della realizzazione dell’ Ala Napoleonica risalgono agli anni in cui Venezia fa parte del Regno d’Italia (1806-1814) di cui Napoleone è il sovrano, viceré il figliastro Eugenio di Beauharnais.Fondato nel 1830, il Museo Correr espone la collezione di un abate e collezionista d'arte veneziano del XIX secolo, Teodoro Correr.
