I have an ad on Craigslist that offers my services on Ecotec engines. I offer tune-ups, SMOG repair, timing chain replacement, and full engine rebuilds. I work out of my garage as a hobby and second income.

May 18, 2018 · I would think low oil level would mean low oil pressure and failed Tensioner(s), leading to slack chains which would then eat up the plastic guides. Or - the low oil condition itself could cause the chain to eat the guides (by increased friction), causing loss of tension, chain skipping, and then catastrophic internal damage to valves and pistons. The four camshaft position actuators are each connected to a camshaft, 2 int. and 2 ext. They sit near the top of the engine and are driven by the timing chains.
