I would say wield a longsword and shield, or a greatsword/axe as the horizon walker is about one powerful attack. If you weren't being melee, you could take a longbow and focus on that.

The Horizon Walker "Distant Strike" feature also lets you teleport 10 feet prior to each attack, and you get one more attack when you hit at least 2 enemies with this. That gives you a total of 4 attacks (normal, extra, distant strike, haste) and possible 160 feet of movement in around without taking opportunity attacks due to mobile.

I feel like, other than the amazing 11th level ability, the mechanics of the subclass don't really deliver the fantasy of a warrior manipulating the connection between planes to their benefit in a consistent way.Ranger is already a class laden with bonus actions.
