IF ...The AQI is an index used by EPA to communicate information about outdoor air quality and health. AQI values are reported on EPA’s AirNow website. The AQI includes six color-coded categories, each corresponding to a range of index values. The higher the AQI value, the higher the concentration of outdoor air pollution and the greater the health concern.For particle pollution this includes: people with heart or lung disease, older adults and children. Occasionally, an action day is declared when the AQI is Moderate, or Code Yellow, if the levels are expected to approach Code Orange levels. In many places, action days are called when the AQI is forecast to be Unhealthy, or Code Red.

This site relies on data provided from a number of sources, including AirNow, the Western Regional Climate Center, AirSis, and PurpleAir for monitoring and sensor data, and the NOAA Hazard Mapping System and National Interagency Fire Center for fire and smoke plume information.
